Agents Of SHIELD: 15 Things You Need To Know Before Season 2 Starts
5. Family Matters
This being a Whedon show, it's really all about family, despite all of the sci-fi espionage and superhero stuff. It's even in the credits; Joss Whedon may not take an active part in the day-to-day running of Agents of SHIELD, but his brother Jed and sister-in-law Maurissa Tancharoen are the showrunners, so familial blood courses through every cell of this show. That of course extends to the characters too, in more ways than one; Coulson may be a father figure trying desperately to rally his troops into something resembling a functional, working family, but that doesn't mean there aren't literal parents in the mix too. In one of the final scenes of season one Raina is seen talking to a figure who she implies is Skye's father - a character who's now known as being played by Kyle MacLachlan. How she will react to having someone so important in her life who she's never actually met before is of great interest to the fans, and may be key in unlocking just what it is that's so special about Skye in the first place.
