Agents Of Shield: 5 Fan Theories On Skye's Identity

1. Mantis

Mantis is a character who is simply not well known or popular enough to be featured in a film or even to lead her own television series. However, this pushes the character into being a strong possibility for Skye's real origins €“ that and the origins actually seem to match to a certain extent. As fans have pointed out, both characters were found in China €“ the comic version having been dropped off at a Kree sect, while Skye was orphaned. Both had no knowledge of their origins. Up until a point, both were unknown of their heritage, and have links to Guardians of the Galaxy. Given the film coming out later this year, it makes perfect sense for Marvel to want to link the series to the film in some manner. Mantis is a Kree, but had special powers that marked her out as something special €“ explaining the 084 designation perfectly €“ although it must be noted that in the most recent episode of the series, Lady Sif did state that the Kree have never visited Earth. But what if Skye is linked to that big blue corpse? If that was just a regular Kree, and she was one as well then it would explain the different reaction to the enzyme than Coulson had. The other thing to note is that if Skye was in fact Mantis then she wouldn't be overpowered for the television show, as her powers would include precognition, empathy, telepathy as well as pyrokinesis and an ability in martial arts. All of these would be well within the limits of the television budget. We agree with the fans on this one €“ it seems that Mantis is the most likely superhero that Skye will be revealed as. Of course one utterly random connection that Skye has to Mantis is that there is a real world air defence system produced by Oerlikon Contraves called Skyshield. You might say, "So what?"; well, the answer is that the improved version of Skyshield is called MANTIS. Go figure. This is just a sample of the speculation seen on the internet by the fans. You're also the fans, so what do you say? Who is Skye really? As always, post your thoughts and ideas below!
