Agents Of Shield: 5 Fan Theories On Skye's Identity

2. Phyla-Vell

Another major Kree/Captain Marvel link, as in the comic books she's a fairly recent creation (originating in 2003) as the "daughter" of Captain Marvel. She's actually a genetic construct, created by a being called Elysius who had a relationship with Marvel. Phyla-Vell hasn't been featured a great deal in the comics €“ in fact probably her only notable act has been dying twice in her short comic lifespan, once at the hands of Adam Warlock and once at the hands of Thanos. In the comics, she's still dead. The problem with Phyla-Vell appearing in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is that she would be immensely overpowered for what we've seen so far on the series. Basically take Ms. Marvel's flight and super strength, then add energy blasts and absorption... oh, and a huge fancy looking sword. In fact the fan theory for Skye being Phyla-Vell is based on her having a father/daughter relationship with Agent Coulson, thus also hypothesising that Coulson is actually Captain Marvel too. Naturally if this turned out to be true, then it would drastically change the point of the show. Why for example would you bother having the jet when you could potentially fly there yourself a great deal quicker? One other point that would seem to rule out Phyla-Vell is her sexuality. She's one of the few openly lesbian characters in the Marvel Universe, and we know that Skye is presumably at least bisexual, if not heterosexual, as early in the series we saw one of her past boyfriends. Changing a character to become straight for television would cause Marvel some unnecessary media coverage, especially for one whose abilities would be difficult funding out of the budget. So while the origins would seem to match to a certain point, and the character is so under-utilised in the comics that it wouldn't hinder the writing process, it just doesn't seem likely that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. would reveal Skye as Phyla-Vell and Coulson as Marvel. We just don't think it would sit right with what we've seen thus far on the series, even though the character is unlikely to appear in a series/film otherwise.
