Ahsoka Episode 1 Review - 7 Ups & 2 Downs

7. Up - The Opening Crawl Is Back (Kind Of)

There are several aspects that go a long way towards making Star Wars Star Wars, and though only a small piece of much greater movies, the opening crawl has always been special. When the music hits and those words start scrolling, that’s when the shivers hit the back of the neck.

Typically, the opening crawl has been reserved only for the nine movies of the Skywalker saga. So far the TV series have omitted it, as did Rogue One. Solo featured something similar in that there was a paragraph of exposition to begin things, but it certainly wasn't the same.

Though there were some differences, the crawl was back for Ahsoka's first episode. Sure, there was no classic fanfare, no ‘A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...’, and the lettering was red rather than yellow, but this was sure to put a smile on the faces of Star Wars fans right from the start.

Exposition is always tricky, but with the crawl Star Wars has a foolproof way of getting essential information across immediately, giving itself something of a head start.
