Altered Carbon Season 2 Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

3. Danica Harlan Is A Totally Mediocre Villain

Another area where season one unarguably wins out is with its villain: the reveal that Takeshi's sister Rei (Dichen Lachman) was the ultimate antagonist was both surprising and morally ambiguous enough to remain interesting.

But season two defers to a far more ordinary - and, honestly, quite boring - villain, with the stern new governor of Harlan's World, Danica Harlan (Lela Loren), attempting to fill Rei's void.

Though Loren certainly gives it her all in role, Harlan as written isn't much more than a generic, pant suit-wearing megalomaniacal schemer.

Ultimately far more interesting is Colonel Ivan Carrera (Torben Liebrecht), the leader of an elite paramilitary unit called The Wedge that is sent after Kovacs, though sadly he doesn't get nearly as much to do as Harlan.
