Altered Carbon Season 2 Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

2. The (Mostly) Mediocre Action Sequences

The first season boasted a number of memorable and stylishly shot action sequences, which ensured every single penny of the show's budget was splashed on the screen for viewers to savour.

If season one was lucky enough to have landed directors with acclaimed Game of Thrones episodes on their CVs, most of this season's directorial talent has rather disappointingly been plucked from the Marvel Netflix pool - and it really, really shows.

All the Marvel Netflix shows not called Daredevil were routinely criticised for their generic, choppy action sequences, and those criticisms depressingly carry over to the directors' work on this season of Altered Carbon.

Aside from an amusingly extended Gladiator-inspired coliseum showdown early in the season, the majority of the set-pieces lack kinetic flair and just feel utterly pedestrian in the way they're shot, edited, and presented to the viewer.

Where is the energy and the creativity that made season one's action so memorable and distinctive?
