Altered Carbon Season 2 Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

1. The Frequently Cringe-Worthy Dialogue

Though a considerable bulk of the season's dialogue is comprised of comically unsubtle exposition, there are also numerous times where the chit-chat lurches into straight-up cornball, even embarrassing territory.

There are so many instances of hackneyed, seemingly placeholder dialogue that somehow made it past the drafting process and into the final shooting script.

If you've seen more than a fantasy show or two in your time, you'll be able to predict countless cliched lines of dialogue before they're spoken, even though the ensemble cast admirably attempts to sell them as sincerely as humanly possible.

Aside from the occasionally thought-provoking morsel, the majority of the dialogue is either forgettable in its robotic efficiency, or lazy enough to induce actual laughter.

So, Altered Carbon's second season isn't the persuasive improvement most were hoping for, then. But it still gets a lot right that makes it at least worth trying out...
