Amazon's Lord Of The Rings: 10 Crucial Second Age Events It Must Include
1. The Last Alliance
The series finale of Amazon's show will likely bring us to the point of both the final days of the Second Age and, conveniently, the scenes depicted in the prologue to Peter Jackson's original movie series, bringing things neatly full circle.
The Last Alliance of Elves and Men to defeat Sauron and his ring of power for good (or at least until the story that we all already know) would give us the epic climax and satisfying narrative conclusion that the show needs: a triumphant victory, but at a cost of sacrifice (neither leader of elves nor men, Gil-Galad and Elendil, make it out alive).
The Last Alliance also gives the show a chance to bring back some further familiar characters and locations, with the forces of Gil-Galad and Elendil gathering at the watchtower on Weathertop (as seen in ruins in The Fellowship Of The Ring).
The elvish forces include Elrond (as seen in that movie's prologue) and the wood elves led by Legolas's grandfather Oropher, who also dies leaving his son, The Hobbit's Thranduil, in charge. Potential supporting roles or cameos for Hugo Weaving and Lee Pace, then. The dwarves of Moria, with ancestors of both Thorin and Gimli could also be included.
The War of the Last Alliance would give us huge battle sequences such as the Battle of Dagorlad Plain, a battle so destructive that it would leave behind The Dead Marshes seen in The Two Towers, and the final assault on Barad-dûr in which Sauron himself (in his spiky devil armour) fights Elendil and Gil-Galad personally.
All this would give the show a satisfyingly grand conclusion, with moments of Isildur picking up the ring leaving a thread hanging to lead into the story of the movies.
