The ultimate endgame for Sauron's scheme is to persuade Pharazôn and the Númenóreans to directly challenge the gods, sailing west to the undying lands to demand that mankind be given the same immortality as elves, and, in so doing, bring about their demise and Sauron's revenge.

As a result of Sauron's persuasion, therefore, we would see the Golden King assembling what Tolkien described as the greatest army the world had ever seen, one that might almost seem like it could be capable of what amounts to an invasion of heaven.

Amazon's series is reportedly set to be the most expensive TV series of all time, with a total budget running well into the hundreds of millions, if not billions. What better use of that incredible budget than showing off a scale of army and fleet of ships the like of which have never before been seen on TV?

It would be a great penultimate episode to a season of the show to see this army like no other, even bigger and more powerful than the one that had invaded Mordor and captured Sauron, sailing out west to attack the gods themselves. That would be sure to be a cliffhanger that audiences would come back to see resolved.
