Amazon's Lord Of The Rings: 10 Crucial Second Age Events It Must Include
5. Amandil's Voyage
Ar-Pharazôn and his Great Armada would not be the only ones sailing west to the undying lands at this point in the series, however. While the king sets out with an army to challenge the gods, another smaller voyage would also be taking place to seek their forgiveness.
Alongside Míriel and Pharazôn, the third of the show's likely initial leads will likely be Amandil. Also descended from the same line of kings going back to Elrond's human brother Elros, Amandil is the Lord of Andúnië, another important aristocratic position in Númenor. His people are known as the Faithful as they remain devoted to the old ways, the Valar and the elves where the king and others have turned against them.
Amandil was a great friend to Pharazôn in their youth and served as an advisor on the king's Council. However, as Sauron becomes more and more influential in the king's ear, Amandil is dismissed and the Faithful persecuted.
There's a good Pharoah and Moses-style thread in this friends and allies to religious persecutor and persecuted arc and would flesh out Pharazôn's character and the way that he is pulled in different directions.
Eventually, as Pharazôn prepares his mighty armada, Amandil sets out on a voyage of his own in secret with just one ship and a handful of servants, disguising his destination by sailing east toward Middle-earth before turning west to the undying lands to beg mercy from the Valar for the wrongs of his people, leaving behind his son who will, as we shall see, become integral to the future of Middle-earth
