American Gods: 11 Things You Need To Know

1. The Next Big Fantasy Series

As the early reactions suggest, American Gods is going to be pretty great, and it's debuting at a great time. As mentioned previously, there's no Game of Thrones, meaning it will have a solid run at being the biggest and best fantasy series on television for two months.

Of course, Starz is a very different ballpark to HBO: its biggest series, Power and Outlander, only garner around 1-2 million viewers per episode. That may be a long way off what something like Game of Thrones gets now, but it's very easily within the same area that Westworld's first season is.

Given the way that series took off, not just in viewing figures but in the discussion around the show, it's very possible that American Gods - with a built-in audience from the books, not to mention die-hard fans of Fuller - could reach that kind of level, and has a very good chance of becoming the next big fantasy series on television. If it's as good as the book, that won't even be in question.
