American Gods: 11 Things You Need To Know
5. It Only Covers The First Third Of The Novel
Unlike, say, Game of Thrones, there isn't a huge amount of source material for Fuller and Green to play with here. There are no five novels (and counting) to set the blueprint for each season, instead just one 465-page book and some supplemental material.
However, there's so much that happens within that, and so many ways it could be extrapolated in terms of what we don't see happen, that there is still the potential for it to run for multiple seasons. With that in mind, then, it's interesting to hear that the first season - which again, has eight episodes - will cover roughly 1/3 of the book.
Gaiman has said that it'll end at the House on the Rock, setting up the Lakeside events to dominate the majority of Season 2. There's a very clear path there for at least three seasons then, but it could quite easily be expanded further, should it prove to be a hit for Starz. It's an interesting approach, and one that makes a lot of sense for a TV adaptation, hitting the same beats but extending it outwards in terms of the characters we follow.
