American Horror Story: 10 Ways The Different Seasons Can Be Connected

10. Recurring Characters

Everyone€™s favourite microcephalic woman, and quite possibly the only microcephalic female on television, Pepper has been in two seasons. She was in Asylum, which occurred in 1962, but she was also in Freak Show, where the audience had the opportunity to see her back story. Poor Pepper. Her aunt was a royal bitch who murdered her own baby and blamed it on Pepper. So where did microcephalic (pretend) baby murderers go in the 1960s? They went to Briarcliff Asylum, of course, the perfect getaway for Holocaust survivors, pregnancy inducing aliens and nosy journalists. Pepper was taken in by Sister Mary Eunice in Freak Show who, pre-demonic possession, seemed like she really wanted to help her patients. The audience was also treated to a special appearance of Hans Gruper, in Freak Show€™s episode Show Stoppers. Who is Hans Gruper? Why, he€™s the infamous Dr. Arden who created forest dwelling monsters at Briarcliff, and the one responsible for chopping off Elsa Mars€™ legs in the weird, Jacob€™s Ladder snuff film. Apparently, old habits die hard in the American Horror Story universe, because he would go on to chop off Shelley€™s legs in Asylum. If you don€™t remember her, she was the nymphomaniac who got a really shoddy haircut from Sister Jude, was mutilated by Dr. Arden and ultimately killed by the Monsignor. Worst asylum ever.
