American Horror Story: Apocalypse - 2 Ups & 5 Downs From ‘Fire And Reign’

2. Mallory As The Next Supreme

American Horror Story Apocalypse Mallory
FX

Speaking of Mallory, she's one of the only Miss Robichuax witches to survive the massacre, which is a questionable creative decision. For some reason, the show has decided to set her up to become the next Supreme without developing her character whatsoever. Viewers know next to nothing about her, and it's hard to see her as anything other than incredibly one dimensional. What's more, she's no Fiona Goode or Cordelia Foxx, so it's hard to buy that she's in the same league as these two powerful witches.

What's worse is that, from a narrative point of view, the Mallory character simply can't hold a candle to any of the previous Coven girls, and yet they're being overlooked in favour of her. She also shares many similarities with fan favourite Misty Day - who's been absent since her resurrection - which doesn't go down to well, as it's coming off as though the writers are compensating for Misty's absence with Mallory who, again, can't compete with the previous creations. At this stage in the game, the viewers would rather spend time with the characters they've grown to love. Perhaps the writers will rectify these issues in the final episode, but by then it might be too late.
