American Horror Story: Apocalypse - 2 Ups & 5 Downs From ‘Fire And Reign’
3. The Flashback Is A Complete Waste Of Time
You'd think that the silver lining in having a much shorter instalment would be that the writers would make use of every single second. Unfortunately this isn't the case. During one particular sequence, in order to see if Mallory has the power to go back in time, Myrtle fills the young witch in on the execution of the Romanov family back in 1918.
However, during Myrtle's would-be brief history lesson, the show opts for the scenic route and dramatises the execution for viewers, giving us a lengthy - and incredibly gory - flashback. If that wasn't bad enough, Mallory doesn't succeed in her mission, which thus renders the entire sequence a waste of time.
Since Mallory was never meant to save the girl, certainly it would've made more sense to have Myrtle briefly explain the events rather than spending quite a lot of time on a destined-to-fail mission?
