American Horror Story: Apocalypse - 3 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Traitor'
1. The Coven Throwbacks
As you can likely tell from the previous entries, much of Traitor's appeal lies in how it manages to re-capture all of the things that made Coven so great. In addition to Legba's visit and Myrtle's backstory filled in, this particular episode captures the tone of Coven in so many ways. For example, the witches working together to bring down Michael is reminiscent of how the women brought down the witch hunters in Season 3.
The most visually pleasing moment arrives when Cordelia leads her coven towards the garage where John Henry was murdered. The witches are clad in black clothing, walking behind their Supreme, as the signature 'la la la' theme tune accompanies them. It's a wonderful scene.
Apocalypse has successfully re-captured the aesthetic of both Murder House and Coven. Dare it be said but, save for a few caveats (more on that later), this episode proves why Apocalypse is exactly the kind of sequel to the witch-themed season that we hoped it would be.
