American Horror Story: Apocalypse - 3 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Traitor'
1. Michael's Absence (And The Plot Issues Because Of It)
Michael Langdon isn't featured in at all in Traitor. His absence is rather noticable, and it ultimately results in quite a few plot issues. Firstly, the witches are conspiring to kill him. We've seen what Michael is capable of in previous episodes - specifically in Return to Murder House - so therefore, wouldn't he be able to use his powerful abilities to detect that the witches are plotting against him?
Perhaps there's an explanation for that, or perhaps the show is waiting to later to reveal that Michael is aware of Cordelia's plan. However, the real issue caused by Michael's absence comes much later into the episode - namely when Miss Mead is kidnapped by Cordelia's coven.
The character is subsequently burned at the stake for her actions, which doesn't make any sense. Why? Well, because Michael has made clear his affection for Miss Mead on many occasions throughout Apocalypse's run. Surely, he wouldn't have left her to fend for herself, not at least before putting a contingency plan in place? If we stretch our imaginations and believe that he did leave her with no protection, wouldn't he have at least been able to sense that she was in danger?
The show gives a pretty weak excuse for the character's absence, as Baldwin Pennypacker comments on Michael's desire to be alone in the wilderness. It all felt rather contrived, and came off as though the show simply didn't have access to actor Cody Fern for this particular episode.
