American Horror Story: Apocalypse Finale - 7 Ups & 2 Downs From ‘Apocalypse Then’

We know the chances of getting a happy ending in American Horror Story are pretty slim - unless of course you're Sister Jude or Elsa Mars, that is - but considering this season has been mind-numbingly bleak, is it really too much to ask that our protagonists get to have a few moments of happiness before the doom and gloom begins again?

The ending of Apocalypse is eerily similar to that of Murder House, in that Emily and Timothy - the former Outpost kids - find out that their three year old child is a cold-blooded killer, suggesting that Satan has ensured his desire for an apocalyptic future will be fulfilled once more.

It's a bold move on Murphy and Falchuk's part, and it's definitely something that, under any other circumstances, would be applauded. However, one of the reasons that the apocalypse-themed season was commissioned in the first place was so that it could finally resolve Murder House's open-ended conclusion. While the events of the eighth season finale ensure that Constance's story - and the Murder House's narrative as a whole - is finally wrapped up, this episode also goes out of its way to suggest that the apocalypse is inevitable, which therefore renders this entire season pointless.

Unless the next couple of seasons are to be period dramas, then surely this means that Anti-Christ 2.0 will have to be stopped if the show is to ever return to the present day?
