3. Jessica Lange Is Back

An American Horror Story finale simply isn't complete without an appearance from former stalwart Jessica Lange and, in spite of Murphy promising that the legendary actress would only return for one episode this season, she manages to pop up in the final instalment also. Once again, Lange is portraying Constance Langdon and, in a matter of minutes, she delivers another award-worthy performance, leaving viewers crying as the ageing character once again loses out on being a mother.

Lange is sensational here, and her unprecedented ability steals the show. While it's great seeing the esteemed actress back on American Horror Story, it's a shame that Murphy and Falchuk couldn't have worked out some way to allow her to reprise her Coven role, because Fiona Goode's presence was certainly required during the harrowing scenes in which Cordelia and Michael collide, that's for sure.
