American Horror Story: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best (So Far)

5. Season Seven: Cult

Once more dumping the show's traditional themes of horror, Cult had a lot riding on its shoulders when it was announced. Originally advertised as a response to the election of Donald Trump as President, there was an audible groan amongst the fandom, who weren't interested in seeing the show getting overly political.

By the time Cult hit our screens, such fears were tossed aside. Focusing on the themes of grief, power and paranoia, Cult features Evan Peters in his most daring and accomplished role as Kai Anderson, a political anarchist who aims to control and manipulate through rage and fear. Sarah Paulson also shines as a woman who suffers from an acute phobia of clowns.

The whole season is rich with character, featuring some of the show's best performances and strongest storylines.

Unfortunately, there remains some weak political generalisations and stereotypes here-and-there, and the final episode feels a tad convoluted in places.

Nonetheless, Cult is a solid and much-needed addition to the show, hitting some high notes without resorting to its typical moments of violence and gory horror.
