The maternal instinct of Ethel gets ever more twisted than in the android nanny, Miriam Mead. Combining a Strong Brow Game, light Satanism, and a smidgen of internal cybernetics, Ms Mead is the most metal of Bates' characters.

Miriam didn't start out quite so robotic. Initially just your bog standard member of a Satanic church, she stumbled across Antichrist Michael Langdon when he was really down on his luck. Rejected by everyone he'd ever called family, Michael found a real home with Mead and her "church."

Few could exude as much confidence as this demon-worshiping powerhouse. Whether or not you agree with her particular philosophy, you have to hand it to her - she did burn to death still faithful to her deity. Such commitment.

And what's more is how that faith did work in her favour; not only did she end up resurrected in robot form, her dedication to the devil's cause continues in the new timeline created by the execution of Michael before he started wreaking havoc. Considering her proven commitment to Satan, there's a good chance she'll be treated as well by the new Antichrist as she was the first. Watch this space, because Ms Mead may well crop up again under haunting;y familar circumstances.
