American Horror Story: Ranking Every Season Premiere From Worst To Best
4. Pilot
The first episode of any series is often unforgettable, but none are perhaps more so than American Horror Story's. The pilot episode not only had the tall task of establishing the tone of the Murder House season, it also had to establish the tone for the whole series. Before this episode aired, many television viewers were unfamiliar with Ryan Murphy, and therefore had no idea what to expect.
The instalment focuses heavily on the troubled Harmon family, all of whom make their way to LA from Boston, in the hopes of starting afresh. It's not that simple, however, and soon the freaky ghostly residents of their new home make their presence felt - as does nosy neighbour Constance Langdon and her daughter Adie.
Pilot does a great job of introducing us to this wild and wicked world. By the end of the episode, plenty of people were undoubtedly questioning what they had just seen - a trait that would become a common occurrence with fans of the series.
