American Horror Story: Ranking Every Season Premiere From Worst To Best
3. Monsters Among Us
The Freak Show season had a lot to live up to, considering American Horror Story was hot off the heels of its most successful year yet. What's more, the announcement that it was to be Jessica Lange's last only intensified what pressure the writers undoubtedly already felt to deliver something memorable.
While there were a few rough patches throughout the 13-episode season, the extra-long premiere episode - entitled Monsters Among Us - was nothing short of revolutionary. The story was established early on, as chanteuse and entertainer Elsa Mars acquired siamese twins Bette and Dot Tattler to join her cabinet of curiosities. Elsewhere, we became acquainted with rich socialite Dandy Mott, who was harbouring an inner darkness.
The most memorable scene came towards the conclusion of the episode, when Elsa took to the stage and delivered a freakish rendition of David Bowie's Life On Mars to her captivated audience. The writing and direction for Monsters Among Us were top notch, and the cinematography was -as always - superb.
