Ra's al Ghul didn't quite live up to expectations as the big-bad of season 3, for a variety of reasons including the acting, writing, and pacing of the storyline. It was more in the second half of the season that he stuttered, after being built-up in the first half as this all-powerful, mythical figure. That build-up really paid off in the mid-season finale, when Oliver travelled to Nanda Parbat for a showdown with the Demon's Head. What followed was one of the best fight scenes that the show has pulled off, an epic encounter atop a mountain. It looked great and felt extremely tense as well. Just when you thought Oliver might have a chance, the rug was pulled from under you as he was stabbed in the chest, and fell to what we were supposed to believe was his death. Obviously he was going to come back, you can't really have the show without him, but it was a huge and shocking conclusion to a fantastic sequence, and the highlight of season 3.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
