Fans had long been shipping Oliver and Felicity - Olicity - before this scene arrived, like a huge teasing moment aimed straight at all the shippers and Tumblr accounts dedicated to the couple. As Oliver explains, Slade has taken Laurel because he wanted to use the woman he loves to hurt him. Then he tells her that he took the wrong woman. Finally, he says it: "I love you." It turned out to be a massive fakeout, all part of a ploy to fool Slade, and it was an extremely clever one at that. Except, of course, there was much more to it. There was an underlying element of truth in Oliver's words, which built throughout season 3 and finally ended with the pair of them driving off into the sunset together. Saying these words was the first time Oliver realised his feelings, even if he thought he was just pretending at the time. Of course, they didn't quite pull off the love story last year, because Felicity was reduced too much to a love interest, but hopefully they can really make it work in season 4 because the chemistry between the two is great, and by this point it's something audiences are really invested in.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
