It is obvious to most views that Ra's al Ghul is the primary villain for this third season. The League of Assassins has had a part in almost every episode thus far. That being said, there is an interesting secondary story-line evolving around the primary antagonist from the first season, Malcolm Merlin. Having trained his daughter in the ways of the League, he has created another ally or potential foil for Oliver Queen (was Thea really drugged when she killed Sara?). While Malcolm is a formidable match for Oliver, he ended up on the bad side of an arrow in their last encounter. Now, he may be planning something big and needed Oliver out of the way in order to accomplish it. Since he was unable to kill the Arrow, he sent Oliver to a man that would have no problem killing him. These plans may include Thea being at his side (either drugged up or not), which would put Oliver in the horrible position of having to fight his sister.
