A good show neednt necessarily be reactive to its fan base, but typically if a large majority hate something, its best not to keep shoving it down their throats. A perfect example of how to handle this is Iris West on The Flash. Largely maligned for being useless and annoying last year, shes become integrated into Team Flash this year. And while the character is still not perfect, shes become much more tolerable and essential to the plot. So its a wonder why Laurel Lance is still just as pointless as ever. Sure, shes adopted her sisters identity of the Canary, but that apparently hasnt stopped her from being completely ineffective as a hero. First, she use the Lazarus Pit to revive her dead sister, which Malcolm Merlyn of all people tells her is incredibly stupid. Then, she proceeds to keep her psychotic, resurrected sister locked up in the basement without telling anyone. Sara escapes, of course, and Laurels string of idiotic decisions is only bailed out because Oliver has a friend that can wield magic. It feels like anytime Laurel is left alone to decide something, she decides on the worst thing possible, and if the show was able to address this going forward, it could make for a huge improvement overall.
