Arrow 150: What Does The Ending Really Mean?

1. The Dystopian Star City From 2046 May Be Upon Us

Perhaps the most shocking thing about the episode's closing scene was the return of actor Joseph David-Jones as Connor Hawke. Helping Mia with her search through the Arrowcave, it was the first time we had seen the older version of the character in quite some time and his return suggests that darker days lie ahead.

Connor Hawke previously appeared in the first season of DC's Legends Of Tomorrow, when the Legends accidentally traveled to 2046 and found themselves stranded in a dystopian Star City, ruled by Deathstroke's son, Grant Wilson. The absence of Oliver Queen allowed the city to become overrun with crime, and eventually led to Connor taking up the mantle of the Green Arrow. While that timeline was presumably erased by the endless time-travel that took place afterwards, it's beginning to look like it may still come to pass after all.

Due to Flashpoint (thanks Barry!), Connor now exists in the present-day timeline under his real name of 'JJ'/John Diggle Jr. - the infant son of Arrow mainstay John Diggle. However, the troubling thing is that, in the Star City 2046 timeline, the character only changed his name to Connor Hawke because he blamed himself for his father's death and didn't feel worthy to share his name. So does the fact that he now operates under that name in this current future timeline confirm that Diggle (and all of his vigilante comrades) have perished?

2040 and 2046 aren't that far apart from each other and, although neither potential future looks bright for Star City, it's beginning to look like one of them could potentially lead to the other. Has time played a major joke on all of us and found a way of undoing the Legends' hard work? Time will tell, won't it?

Either way, things are looking pretty bleak for Star City in 20 years time.
