Arrow: 6 Things That "Sara" Did Right (And 3 It Didn't)
3. Felicity Wants More
As one of the few consistently lighter characters in the ensemble, Felicity's presence has added a sense of fun to what had before been a somewhat dreary program, and her role after the first two seasons has arguably elevated her to the status of female lead. Everybody loves Felicity! Including, as of the season premiere, Oliver Queen. Despite her prominence, however, Felicity has had the least expansion of any of the main characters. Her personality has been established well enough, but she seemed content to exist in the foundry as the witty girl Wednesday to the dour hero. Fortunately, Season 3 seems determined to make a change. Between Oliver's rather backwards decision to end their romantic relationship by declaring his love and planting a kiss on her last week and the implications of Sara's death this week, Felicity decides that she wants more in her life than wasting away in a cave with no friends beyond Oliver's other accomplices and no career to utilize her degree from M.I.T. The hunky Ray Palmer courting her for a position at Queen Consolidated presents the possibility of a professional future that does involve executive assistance or polo shirts, and his apparent willingness to tone down the smarminess hints that he may become a presence in her personal life as well. If he proves that his creepily obsessive pursuit of her is limited to job recruitment, a healthy romance may be in the cards for her. Hey, if she can't be with Stephen Amell's Oliver, Brandon Routh's Ray isn't a half bad substitute. Carpe diem, Felicity! Besides, all those recent hints about Felicity's experience with stalkers can't be for nothing. Hopefully, we'll be in for some juicy backstory.
Fiction buff and writer. If it's on Netflix, it's probably in my queue. I've bought DVDs for the special features and usually claim that the book is better than the movie or show (and can provide examples). I've never met a TV show that I won't marathon. Follow on Twitter @lah9891 .
