Arrow: 6 Ups And 5 Downs From The Season 4 Premiere 'Green Arrow'

10. Down - New Team Arrow (Sans Oliver)

Oliver Arrow Season 4
The CW

They tried this for a little period last year, when Oliver was believed to have been killed by Ra's al Ghul, and it didn't really work. They've revisited it here, with Thea/Speedy (but NOT the Red Arrow) taking on a more prominent role now that Roy has left, but the results are pretty much the same.

Vigilantism in Star City exists because of Oliver, he's the leader of the team and by far the best fighter on it. Diggle, Laurel, and Thea all do their best, but it just isn't the same watching them do it without the Arrow there.

He elevates the action scenes, and gives them more importance as well. Oliver certainly needs the help, and it's good to get plenty of Team Arrow, but it doesn't really work when the titular character isn't a part of it. Thankfully the show rectifies this later on, but it means the first battle with the Ghosts isn't particularly great. Oh, and credit to Diggle for attempting to pull off that new headwear. It's certainly bold, if nothing else.
