As of now, the flashbacks on the island are poorly paced, weakly acted and apparently pointless. Even if they lead to some artefact that will help Oliver stop Darhk in the present, it wont have justified the obscene amount of time weve spent walking around in circles. Looking back at the flashbacks from the earlier seasons, they had a recurring impact on the plot in the present and presented compelling drama of their own. Now it seams like the writers are just treading water each episode until the finale when theyll presumably send Oliver off to Russia. If they want to do something about this, they need to get back to the flashbacks that helped develop Oliver into the vigilante we met at the start of Season 1. How has him walking around an island for a year helped him develop his fighting skills? Hes done no sort of parkour and hasnt fired an arrow in forever, so how is he going to all of a sudden become the master of these skills that we saw in the pilot? If the remaining flashbacks find a way to incorporate the learning of skills back into their use, the show will be much better off for it.
