Arrow Season 5: 8 Ups And 2 Downs From 'Legacy'

7. Saving The City Takes Precedent

Given how the Season 4 finale saw Oliver Queen snag the gig of Mayor of Star City, some were wondering whether that would mean him stepping back from the hero gig for a little while. Fortunately, that’s not the case.

From the early moments of Legacy, we see that Ollie is more than happy to run late for his Mayoral duties when Green Arrow duty comes calling. As he puts it himself, “Saving the city takes priority over running it." Then again, he’s not flaunting his fighting prowess, as shown by his decision not to fight back against Charon’s henchman when he realised cameras were present.

Despite his allegiance to serving as Mayor, it’s hugely important for the show right now that Oliver doesn’t put his superhero outings on the back-burner, so having this established straight away in Season 5 is great to see. If anything, he’s even more singularly focussed on the hero gig than he’s been in a long time due to spending this season premiere largely fighting the bad guys on his lonesome.

With a new Team Arrow set to come together over the next few episodes, it will likely be that we’ll be seeing more of Oliver’s time eventually dedicated to running the city as Mayor, but for now we at least get to enjoy him first and foremost as the Green Arrow.
