Arrow Season 7: 4 Ups & 1 Down From 'Training Day'

Down...

1. Diggle Is Psychic... Apparently

Other than Oliver himself, the only person who knew about Felicity's pregnancy heading into this week's episode was Laurel, so it's safe to say that the future Mia Smoak's existence was kept well under wraps. That was something that Felicity wanted to maintain this week, until Diggle started asking questions about her and Oliver's recent behaviour. So it didn't take long for her to spill the beans, allowing the three of them to celebrate together.

It makes sense that the writers wanted three of the core Team Arrow members to share a special moment when it came to the great news, but this ended up coming off as incredibly contrived. Diggle claimed that he thought the pair were acting as though they were "up against a clock" that he didn't know about. Really? Are we supposed to believe that he just whipped that line out of thin air based on Oliver's behaviour at the precinct?

In reality, the Emerald Archer's actions didn't look any different to his usual behaviour. As always, he acted out when the partnership didn't work and, while that's certainly not a criticism given that his way was far more effective, it's totally in line with his explosive and often impatient attitude. So, for Diggle to suddenly jump to a conclusion based on nothing new (and deliver a line that is so on-the-nose that it killed any subtly he was attempting to convey) just came off as an incredibly forced means to further the narrative and ended up taking away from what should have been a sweet moment.
