Arrow Season 7: 4 Ups & 2 Downs From ‘Star City 2040’
1. The Next Generation
'Star City 2040' may have added some context and progressed the plot, but its greatest strength didn't lie in its storytelling or in its twists, it lay in the cast's strong performances. The younger actors weren't just supporting the main narrative through a series of recurring flash-forwards anymore, they were leading the whole episode - something they all did incredibly effectively, especially Ben Lewis and Katherine McNamara.
Teaming up in an attempt to rescue Felicity, William and Mia spent a lot of time together as they made their way over the wall that separated The Glades from the rest of Star City. Not only did it allow them to grow that little bit closer, it highlighted the chemistry between Lewis and McNamara. The pair thrived on-screen together as the Queen siblings threw jibes at each other one moment and shared a heart-to-heart in the next.
From Lewis' emotional turn (when William was reunited with Felicity) to McNamara's feisty offering (when Mia clashed with her mother over their respective outlooks), their powerhouse performances showcased their true potential, highlighting just how strong they were in the lead roles.
Joseph David Jones and Andrea Sixtos also delivered as Connor Hawke and Zoe Ramirez, proving that they too were capable of the heavier load that this week's episode offered as they worked incredibly well with Arrow vets Juliana Harkavy, Colton Haynes, Emily Bett Rickards and Rick Gonzalez.
With Arrow ready to head off into that emerald sunset within the next year, and rumours circulating about a potential spin-off, the young cast of the flash-forwards have proven that they would be more than capable of leading their own show.
Now, for the negatives...
