Arrow Season 7: 4 Ups & 2 Downs From ‘The Longbow Hunters’

2. The Plot Thickens

Arrow William Roy
The CW

Last week's premiere threw a major curveball when the show recycled its flashback format to start producing flash-forwards instead, giving us a mysterious narrative in which a stranger turned up on Lian Yu and ran into an older Roy Harper. The stranger turned out to be Oliver's son, William.

This week, the flash-forwards continued and they allowed us to get to know future William a little better, revealing that he was, for some reason, left behind by Oliver and Felicity. Oh, he also revealed that he had an ex-boyfriend which was a nice little touch and just another example of how representative the Arrowverse (and The CW) is.

After digging through one of the many graves on the island, the pair found Oliver's signature Green Arrow bow. Upon discovering it, Roy told Oliver's son that they have to return to Star City, but he didn't reveal why.

There is an essence of mystery surrounding this arc that once again added some much-welcome intrigue to the episode. We still don't know what happened to Oliver and Felicity or why Roy ended up on Lian Yu, but it's keeping us guessing and keeping us intrigued - something that the show's final few years of flashbacks failed to do. Moreover, actor Ben Lewis does a great job bringing this older William to life as he even sounds like Jack Moore, who portrays the younger version of the character.
