2. (Flashing) Back To The Beginning
Though there were no flash-forwards this week, the show did return to its old format of using flashbacks to further a particular character's arc.
Flashing back to various points throughout her life, viewers got a glimpse into some of the events that shaped Emiko into the woman that she is today. As a result, we witnessed Robert Queen's abandoning of her and her mother (marking the welcome return of Jamey Sheridan as the Queen patriarch), her short-lived time as an errand girl for the Bertinellis, her introduction to Dante and, perhaps most importantly, her final ever meeting with her father.
Through it all, we learned that Emiko idolised her father to such an extent that Dante wasn't pleased she was splitting her time between training and attempting to appeal to Robert. He then presented her with something and, after the meeting with Robert went sour, we discovered that it was an invoice for Malcolm Merlyn that highlighted where the explosives on the Gambit were placed - suggesting that The Ninth Circle was actually the organization responsible for the boat's sinking and, as a result, essentially kick-started Oliver's journey towards becoming Star City's protector.
However, that was only one of the episode's major twists to involve Emiko...
