Arrow Season 7: 5 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Inheritance'

Downs...

2. A Convenience (Or Three) Too Far

Given how vocal she has been about how much she likes her new life as D.A., why would Laurel suddenly decide to start coercing confessions from criminals now? Why did Dinah randomly confront her over this supposed behaviour now? Where did Emiko get photos of Laurel and Ricardo Diaz during their covert mission from last season's 'The Dragon'?

That's how many hoops the writers expected viewers to jump through in order to believe that Laurel may still be a villain after all. One or two of them would have been pushing it, but three? Well, that's too contrived (even for Arrow).

It appears that the creative team is attempting to give Laurel a chance to figure out exactly who she is in the next episode and are going to use Emiko's photos to do just that. While that's all well and good, it would have been far more effective if the basis for her character crisis didn't ride on a single episode with more conveniences than you can shoot an arrow at. If they had given the character the spotlight that she needed in the first place, then maybe this wouldn't have come off as so problematic. Instead, we have to buy that these things simply happened without asking too many questions - which doesn't really seem believable, does it?

Speaking of Laurel's dilemma...
