Arrow Season 7: 7 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Lost Canary'
1. Long Live The Black Canary (And The Canaries)
'Lost Canary' also saw the return of the show's flash-forward narrative which, in a surprising twist, turned out to be an all-female storyline too. Following on from the events of 'Star City 2040', the episode saw Galaxy 1 respond to the rise of the Canaries by killing as many of the female vigilantes as possible - a decision that moved Mia Smoak to retaliate.
Dinah attempted to reason with her, claiming that the Canary Network was initially set up so that women could support each other (a nice little nod to how she learned from her poor treatment of Laurel) and that they must refrain from doing anything stupid. Mia ignored the advice, reminding her that she wasn't a Canary and, as a result, got a lot closer to death than she ever wanted to be. That is, until she was saved by a Canary Cry.
This Cry, however, wasn't Dinah's, nor was it Cisco's technology that created Earth-1 Laurel's collar and Sara/Dinah's new bracelet - it was the shrill, high-pitched shriek that belonged to none other than Black Siren. Then, in one of the show's most fulfilling scenes, Siren jumped out of the shadows wearing Earth-1 Laurel's Black Canary suit.
In that moment, all had become clear. Not only did it beautifully mirror the character's present-day departure, proving that she does become worthy of wearing Laurel's suit in the future, it finally told us what the character was up to during the flash-forwards, while also suggesting that the Canary Network is a lot bigger than any of us initially imagined.
While plenty of questions still remain, we can rest assured knowing that the wrongs of previous seasons have been righted. After all this time, Dinah Laurel Lance is once again the Black Canary.
Now, for the negative...
