John Diggle has been so steadfast in his approach over the years that the character started growing stale around the fourth season, repeating the same storylines over again and refusing to learn from his mistakes.

However, Season 8 took things back to basics for him as, instead of continuing to evolve his original role into its vigilante equivalent, the writers recreated that original role, ensuring that he remained by Oliver's side throughout all of his final mission - just as he did for the first one. This gave Diggle a renewed sense of purpose and reminded fans why they fell in love with him in the first place.

On top of that, he was an always reliable component in the field and his marriage to Lyla once again provided some great authentic conflict - giving David Ramsey a chance to deliver some of his best work. And, of course, we can't move on without discussing how right the show got his own emerald finale fate - without question, the perfect send-off for the character.
