Arrow Season 8 Review: 5 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Reset'

2. Laurel Says Goodbye

It seemed that no matter what Oliver and Laurel did, they were destined to watch their beloved Quentin Lance die over and over again. What they didn't know at the time was that this was exactly the point, as the pair had to endure it in order to free themselves from the burdens they were carrying around. A test from The Monitor, it was also a type of gift as it presented them with a form of closure - and for Laurel that closure came in the form of a tearful goodbye.

Ever since she took up the mantle of the Black Canary, Laurel has went out of her way to do the right thing - including fighting for an earth that isn't her's even when her own home was wiped out. But it wasn't always like that, as the former Black Siren once struggled to leave her villainous days in the past. The one person who always believed in her, however, was Quentin as he embraced the Earth-2 doppelganger of his daughter back in Season 6 and attempted to set her on the path of good.

Unfortunately, his death robbed him of the chance to see her for the hero she had become and it also left her without a chance to say goodbye. 'Reset' amended that, as the pair shared a heartfelt farewell before Quentin died (again) with Laurel tearfully thanking him for believing in her. "That's what dads do," he told her, forcing all of us to reach for the tissues.

We already touched upon how well Paul Blackthorne works with Katie Cassidy, but this was some of the pair's finest work yet, as their incredible performances made this closure we had been waiting on even more of a poignant moment.
