Batwoman Season 1: 3 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Who Are You?'

1. It Still Feels Rushed

Batwoman episode 3
The CW

It's like a rite of passage for newbie superhero shows to have their titular star fall for other people while waiting for the love of their life to become available. Remember how Arrow's Oliver Queen dated McKenna Hall when he clearly still adored Laurel Lance? What about how The Flash's Barry Allen had a relatively successful but short-lived relationship with Patty Spivot when he couldn't be with Iris West?

Batwoman attempted to replicate that with Kate's passionate but short relationship with Reagan and, for the most part, it succeeded. Yet the difference between it and the aforementioned ill-fated romances was that Kate's love affair lasted for a single episode, meaning that the writers had to progress the relationship from loving and passionate to doubtful and fed-up within a couple of scenes.

The pair had great chemistry and made for a lovely couple, so it would have been nice to see them together for a little longer. Unfortunately, Batwoman seems to be content rushing its way through every trope instead of taking some time to find its footing. Unexpected immediate reveals are fine as they catch us off-guard and change things up, but character-driven narratives need more time - and just wasn't given that.

Now, for the positives...
