As entertaining as it was watching Kate grow into her role as a hero, it was hard not to notice the absence of one of Batwoman’s most recognisable features: The iconic red wig.

During the character’s first ever live-action appearance in last year’s Elseworlds crossover (and all the subsequent promotional material for the show), she did indeed sport the wig – and it is undoubtedly a look that should be marvelled at – so you can see why some viewers were left feeling a little short-changed not to see the completed costume show up in the first episode.

Given that the writers were attempting to tell Batwoman’s origin story in a 40-minute window, you might think it wrong to criticise them for not rushing this aspect of her origins, but as the pilots of Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl all successfully gave their respective heroes their final (at the time) looks, why couldn’t Batwoman? After all, the costume was ready.

The timing, however, did present other, more important issues...
