1. It Felt A Little Rushed

Due to all the negativity going into Batwoman, expectations were unfairly low for the pilot episode. But you know what? The writers really pulled it off and delivered a compelling origin story for Gotham's new saviour. The only problem was that Kate's story was so compelling that we, as viewers, wanted to see more of it.

Unfortunately, the episode was trying to fit an origin worthy of a film into a 40-minute TV episode, and there were times that it really showed. Characters reached conclusions far too quickly, arguments hit their boiling points too soon and anything that couldn't be shown had to be dealt with through Kate's narration.

In addition, the editing in parts was somewhat choppy and never fully gave the audience a chance to digest anything, as the whole thing moved along far too fast. And as a result, much of the great story remained below the surface, because that surface was brushing over things at an alarmingly quick rate.

It's not exactly fair to blame Batwoman itself on this as they had to stick to the conventions of network TV, but the pilot episode really could have done with another 10 minutes, as it would have allowed the story to breathe a little more.

Now, for the positives...
