Batwoman Season 1 Review: 9 Ups & 5 Downs
4. The Post-Crisis Surge
Remember how we said Batwoman had a flat-but-fairly-decent opening? Well, barring one or two exceptions it does improve with each passing episode; adding layers upon layers to its central arcs. However, following the Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover, it experiences an incredible spike in quality as it surges ahead of anything it produced in its first half to deliver a tale that is genuinely gripping.
You would think that the Kane family drama used all of its trump cards too early on - and that is a genuine gripe with the first couple of episodes - but somehow, the writers find a way to build on that, using plot developments outside of the predictable ones, while also utilising some of the changes enforced by Crisis On Infinite Earths to complement the narrative.
Pre-Crisis Batwoman is flawed but it certainly has potential... Post-Crisis Batwoman not only lives up to that potential, it exceeds it, smashing expectations into pieces with an arc that is among the Arrowverse's finest.
