Better Call Saul: 10 Scenes From Breaking Bad That Need Expanding

2. Gus And The Cartel

If Saul is set to meet Mike in the world of 2002 then we can expect that one way or another viewers are going to be treated to the return of Mike€™s employer, Gustavo Fring. Little is known about the specifics of Gus€™ backstory. We know he fled Chile during the Pinochet dictatorship and it has been alluded to that he worked for the oppressive government in some capacity. Specifically, a scene that would benefit from a BCS expansion comes in Season 4 (Hermanos) where flashbacks give viewers their deepest look into Gus when his business partner is murdered in front of him by Don Eladio and Hector Salamanca. There, the seeds are planted for Gus's BB arc: he moves to New Mexico, Los Pollos Hermanos is born and a one way course towards Madigral Elektromotoren and Walter White is set-up. While Saul only knows Fring through a guy (Mike) who knows a guy who knows a guy, the fact that Saul works with Mike and Mike with Gus makes it a good possibility that Saul's lawyerly skills will be used on Fring's behalf indirectly drawing Mr. Goodman into the turbulent fringes of Gustavo's world. Fring had a long, rocky relationship with the Salamanca family and its ties to the Ciudad Juarez Cartel, a fact that holds the potential for guest spots and story lines to develop around Hector, Tuco, or The Twins.
