Big Bang Theory Vs. Friends - 8 Key Battles

2. Phoebe Buffay-Hannigan Vs. Amy Farrah Fowler

Why This Match?: These two are the quirky ones and the outsiders of the group. Both are strong-willed with deeply ingrained beliefs that they stick ardently to, no matter how silly they seem to others. The Battle: Phoebe was the only one of the Friends quartet with real issues that extended beyond what coffee they should order or which attractive guy/girl they should choose to bunk up with that week. An orphan whose father left her and whose mother killed herself, Phoebe spent time on the streets before becoming a part of the circle. She had a real back story that went deeper than being raised in white American suburbia, an interesting one at that, and a casual hippy-dippy approach to life that was endearing. Then she became just another character. Her arc saw her go from zany flower child to generic bore, with the same frivolous desires and drives as the rest of the group. Amy first came into play as a mystery blind date for Sheldon set up by his meddling friends Howard and Raj. The two hit it off and Amy became a regular feature on the show from that point onwards. Cast as a female equivalent of Sheldon, Farrah Fowler started life as a robotic wooden prude with an off-putting personality and even more limited social skills than Sheldon. In a matter of episodes she was transformed into a party-loving, sexually-driven, alternative Penny. Many TBBT fans say their love of the show dissipated shortly after the introduction of Amy as a regular character. That€™s probably a little over the top though, as the problem is not what Amy brings to the table but rather the way she changes Sheldon for the worst. Winner: Amy. This is sure to be a controversial choice given TBBT fans€™ views on Amy, but I don't dislike her. For all she altered Sheldon€™s personality and made him more human and thus less funny, she is still often involved in some of the later series€™ better moments. The same cannot be said for Phoebe, who didn't contribute anything worthwhile to Friends beyond the first couple of seasons. Score: Friends 3-4 The Big Bang Theory
