Big Bang Theory Vs. Friends - 8 Key Battles

3. Joey Tribbiani Vs. Howard Wolowitz

Why This Match?: Joey and Howard fancy themselves as ladies€™ men, though the former has significantly more success in that department than the latter. The other thing they have in common is their status as the €œstupid€ one amongst the guys, with Joey dumber than a bowl of soup by the end and Howard the resident dunce of the Big Bang gents due to his lack of a PhD. The Battle: Joey is the Friends everyman, the dim-witted but loveable scamp who girls want to be with and guys want to be like. He has no trouble in the bedroom €“ apart from that one time when Rachel accidentally kneed him in the crotch when they were trying to get amorous €“ but struggles in everyday life with things like finances and his career. Not that he cares. Joey became progressively more stupid as the show went on, as the writers decided to use his limited intelligence as his key trait, basically retooling him as child with learning difficulties. For all it was typically over the top, the further dumbing down of Joey actually managed to make him even funnier, and by the end he routinely delivered the lines of the show amidst an endless sea of Chandler €œpull my finger€ level jokes and Ross€™s animated yelling. Howard€™s relative lack of intelligence has been used for the occasional laugh, but his main purpose at first was to appal single ladies everywhere. Once the sort of man who would wear an eye patch and use negative compliments in order to try and pick up women, he inexplicably became a considerate, passionate lover deemed to be suitable husband material by Bernadette, and would often give advice to his lovelorn friends. The hook-up with Bernie neutered Howard, reducing him to acting like an immature child in an emotionally abusive relationship. The Winner: Joey. A strong character throughout Friends who never faltered or lost his charm, even after that ill-advised dalliance with Rachel. Howard remained gloriously funny in places, but only when Bernadette was not around. When she was he moped, whined, and generally acted like a spoilt brat. Score: Friends 3-3 The Big Bang Theory
