16. It Was All For A Teddy Bear - Metalhead
Metalhead is unusual for Black Mirror in that it is a simple - but relentlessly grim - tale of survival which sees Bella (Maxine Peake) attempt to escape a killer robot dog in an unexplained post-apocalyptic wasteland. We know that she is trying to get something back to her sister's young son, Jack, who likely only has a few days to live.
After the episode leaves Bella to her doom, the camera pans back to the warehouse where Bella first gained the attention of the dog. It is revealed that she risked her life, and ultimately lost it, in the hunt for a teddy bear to replace the one Jack had presumably lost.
It's a moving moment of tenderness in an otherwise dark episode.
