Blood Of Zeus: 10 Greek Mythology References You Might Have Missed
2. Zeus's "bastard" God-children
One of the best aspects of Blood of Zeus was how it gave focus to Zeus's offspring, not just in Heron being his half-human son, but also in Zeus's Olympian children. Apollo, Hermes, and Ares all get to take centre-stage in some of the more exciting parts of the show, with the tension between Ares and Zeus's other "bastard" children made clear.
The relationship between Apollo and Hermes has mythological basis as well, with Hermes in childhood causing Apollo trouble with his mischief, but the two of them later growing close.
Ares is a particularly interesting figure in the series, clearly caught between his two parents, Zeus and Hera. His loyalty to his mother is clear, but his clear respect of Zeus and the way he stands with his brothers when the two rulers of Olympus stand off makes him much more intriguing than his simpler violence might lead viewers to believe.
In the scene where Heron first arrives on Olympus, the fact that Hermes, Apollo and Artemis come to meet him also shows their kinship as Zeus's children by other women. Hopefully, Artemis, as well as Zeus's other children, get to shine more in season 2.
