Blood Of Zeus Review: 9 Ups And 2 Downs
1. Up: The Cast And Characters
Apart from their eye-catching designs, the characters shine both in the writing and voice acting, with a star-studded cast lending dramatic weight to what could have easily been forgettable, B-movie fare in a different hat, if not handled well.
Some standouts include Jason O'Mara of Man In The High Castle and animated Batman fame as Zeus, able to go effectively between authoritative god and warm father-figure; Claudia Christian, known best for her role in Babylon 5, capturing the depth of emotion and noble gravity of the queenly Hera; sci-fi royalty Elias Toufexis playing the compelling and sympathetic antagonist Seraphim; Jessica Henwick, known for her badass warrior roles in shows such as Iron Fist, playing another badass warrior, the show's other protagonist, the Amazonian Alexia; and Friday Night Lights's Derek Phillips playing the conflicted, ultimately heroic and selfless protagonist and titular mortal son of Zeus, Heron, just to name a few.
Their voices, as well as some familiar voice acting stalwarts in amongst the gods and humans, along with the impactful character writing, elevate this show to something truly worth watching - maybe even binging - in what seems to be a renaissance for adult animation and mythological storytelling.
